Co Cavan Family Find Irish Lotto Ticket Worth €4.5 Million in Car
The winning ticket from the Irish Lotto draw on Christmas Eve has been claimed after a family from Bailieborough in Co Cavan came forward to pick up their cheque for €4.5 million. They found their lucky entry on the dashboard of their car on Christmas morning, making the festive season better than they could ever have imagined.
The family purchased the winning Quick Pick ticket at the SuperValu on Bailieborough’s Main Street on the day of the draw - becoming the store’s second jackpot winner. They have decided to keep their identities private, but shared the story of their success when they visited National Lottery offices in Dublin.
“We were driving home on Christmas morning when my son told me that the local shop had sold a winning Lotto ticket,” the father said, quoted in the Irish Times. “He was able to tell me that it was a Quick Pick ticket and I suddenly realised that I had a Lotto ticket in the car.”
The family later checked the ticket when they got home and, upon realising they had won, admit the ‘place went absolutely mad’. They are now planning a big party for the local neighbourhood, having been touched by the level of support shown by everyone around them.
He explained: “We live in a very small close-knit community and our neighbours and friends have been incredible over the past few weeks with good wishes and messages of support.”
The Irish Lotto jackpot has not been won since Christmas Eve, and another rollover on Saturday pushed the jackpot up to €4 million for Wednesday night’s draw. With €45 million also on offer in Tuesday’s EuroMillions, more players could soon have something to celebrate, and tickets can be bought now. Good luck!
