Co Clare Village ‘Buzzing’ After €30 Million EuroMillions Win
A village in Co Clare has found itself the centre of attention after selling a EuroMillions ticket worth €30 million on Friday 11th February.
Local residents have flocked to Larkin’s Gala in Killaloe after it was revealed to be the store that created the big winner.
Killaloe, on the shores of Lough Derg, is at the crossroads of Clare, Tipperary and Limerick, so the winner could be from any of those counties or from further afield, as there is a lot of passing traffic at Larkin’s Gala.
Siobhan Larkin, proprietor of the store along with husband Michael, said the story had generated a huge amount of excitement in the region.
She said: “Shock, delight - it is amazing, it is great for the area. We’re after having a tough two years and it’s great to have a bit of joy and news around the place, it’s brilliant.”
Larkin has no idea whether the winner is a local or someone travelling through, but she has been keen to remind everyone to check their tickets.
“It could be either Tipperary, Clare, it could be Limerick – we’re on the road as you come out from Ballina and heading towards the motorway so we would have an awful lot of passing traffic and we have a forecourt as well,” she said of the service station’s location.
“There would be vans coming in getting fuel here so it could be any part of the country.
“Our customers have been very loyal to us and they’ve been very good to us all through the years and it’s just great because the last two years have been very tough on the staff and on ourselves and on the local community, so something like this is going to bring a great bit of a buzz around the place.”
The winning EuroMillions numbers for Friday 11th February were 13, 18, 38, 42 and 45, with Lucky Stars 7 and 11. The Irish ticket holder was the only player in Europe to match all the numbers, making them the country’s first jackpot winner since July 2020.
