Irish Lottery Reaches Milestone of 1,000 Millionaires
The Irish Lottery has revealed that 1,000 prizes of €1 million or more have now been paid out. Having started in 1987, that works out at 27 millionaires a year!
The milestone was reached in the Lotto Plus draw on 6th July, when an extra €1 million was added to the prize pot and one lucky player from Cork ended up snapping it up. The ticket was bought at Dunnes Stores in Charleville, and lottery officials and presenters have now descended on the town to mark the occasion.
Biggest Wins
Out of all the millionaires created in Ireland over the past four decades, the largest prizes have all come in EuroMillions, which began in 2004.
The biggest of the lot went to a family from The Naul in Co Dublin, who claimed a jackpot of €175.4 million back in February 2019. There have been multiple other payouts of more than €50 million.
The record jackpot for Lotto was set in January 2022, when a single ticket netted more than €19 million following an unprecedented run of rollovers.
There are now several games which can make millionaires, not like when the Irish Lottery first started. As well as Lotto and EuroMillions, there is Daily Million, while the new EuroDreams game offers a top prize of €20,000 a month for 30 years.
Keep track of all the draws throughout the week, and catch up with the latest results as soon as they are available.
