Irish Lotto Jackpot Reaches €6 million
The Irish Lottery jackpot has reached €6 million in time for the midweek draw on Wednesday 9th January 2013 after rolling over for the past six draws. The top prize has not been won since 15th December 2012, which means 2013 has yet to see a jackpot winner – but with €6 million to play for, could we be seeing our first winner of the year this Wednesday?
The current jackpot is the highest it has been since the end of October 2012, when the jackpot rolled over eight times to generate a whopping €7,373,469. However, it still has a little way to go before it beats the highest jackpot of 2012 which was an impressive €11,526,001 and shared between two very lucky ticket holders.
Big jackpots are not as frequent on the Irish Lotto as on some other national lotteries due to its matrix – as players are required to match six numbers from 45 to win the jackpot, there is a 1 in 8,145,060 chance of matching all six numbers which is actually very good odds for a national lottery! This therefore means that it is frequently won, and so sees fewer consecutive rollovers when compared to other lotteries, such as the Euromillions (which has odds of winning of 1 in 116,531,800!).
So, players, buy your lottery tickets in plenty of time for the draw on Wednesday 9th January 2012, and see if you could beat those odds to be the first jackpot winner of 2013!
