The numbers drawn on Saturday were 1, 2, 7, 33, 34 and 40, with Bonus Ball 6. As well as the jackpot winner, one participant matched five main numbers plus the Bonus Ball to snare €283,274. Winner’s Identity?
The jackpot had been growing since a player banked €5.4 million on Saturday 23rd December with a ticket bought at Dublin Airport’s WH Smith, and a spokesperson for the National Lottery described the win as a ‘fantastic way to start the new year’.
While there has been no word yet from the winner, the store which sold the lucky ticket has been quick to start celebrating. Austin Daly, owner of the Lifford Topaz, said: “It was like a jolt as we immediately started spreading the word to our customers and put the news on a digital sign at the station. This morning there is an incredible buzz around the town and I really hope it is a local person who won. All in all it's a great weekend for Lifford and for Donegal.”
Could It Be A UK Player?
While Daly hopes the winner is a local resident and Lifford has a population of just over 1,500, the town is very close to the Northern Irish border and it could be that someone from the UK has crossed over to buy a ticket.
There are no rules about where an Irish Lotto player must live to be eligible to take part in the game. As long as you are aged 18 or over, you can play regardless of your nationality, so you can take part if you live just over the border or are visiting Ireland on holiday.
You can also choose numbers online and not even go to a retailer in Ireland at all. You will be automatically notified of prizes you win and paid out most amounts. As the wait for the latest winner to come forward goes on, you can look ahead to the next game on Wednesday and the chance to win €2 million.
