Irish Lotto Player Lands €8.2 Million on Saturday 5th March 2016
An Irish Lotto player from Sligo has scooped the jackpot of €8.2 million after matching all six main numbers in the draw on Saturday 5th March. The owner of the store which sold the winning ticket has also revealed it is not the first time that his ‘Shop and Stop’ outlet has created a jackpot winner.
The numbers drawn on the night were 2, 8, 16, 24, 33 and 42 with Bonus Ball 47. As well as the jackpot winner, there were over 49,500 other participants who snapped up prizes ranging between a €3 scratchcard for matching two main numbers plus the Bonus Ball and €1,016 for matching five main numbers. There were also two ticket holders who won €5,000 each in Irish Lotto Plus 1 after matching five main numbers plus the Bonus Ball, and you can find out more about all the night’s games in the Irish Lotto Results section.
The jackpot winner has not yet come forward, but the shop where the ticket was sold has already experienced an upsurge in business and the champagne has been put on ice as they wait for the lucky player to put in their claim. The store is owned by Matt Lyons, the former Mayor of Sligo and a member of the Fine Gael political party, who had previously seen a player win €4 million back in 2009.
Lyons said in the Irish Times: “We were very busy yesterday. Sligo Rovers were playing in the Showgrounds. We also had a stag party in and a lot of them bought tickets. On Saturdays we tend to get a lot of visitors, especially if there is something on in town. There was a big crowd in for the Sligo Rovers match. During the week we tend to get more locals and people who work on the street.”
As the wait goes on for the jackpot winner to claim their money, players can look forward to the next Irish Lotto draw on Wednesday night. The top prize will be worth €2 million and you can buy tickets online or from authorised retailers in Ireland, so it might be worth a visit to Lyons’ store if you are anywhere near the Sligo area! Best of luck!
