Irish Lotto Winners Wait Four Weeks To Collect €8.3 Million Jackpot
The Irish Lotto jackpot from Saturday 4th August has finally been claimed by a syndicate from Co. Cork. The lucky winners are now looking forward to paying off mortgages and loans, going on holidays and buying cars, but they have also vowed to keep their feet on the ground.
The top prize had climbed to €8.3 million, its highest value since May, when the lottery group matched the winning numbers 3, 4, 5, 19, 26 and 43. However, they decided not to come forward straight away and instead they took their time to get their heads around the win and plan for the future.
They finally visited National Lottery headquarters in Dublin on Monday to collect their money, revealing how they plan to spend their fortune and expressing their delight at scooping a multimillion-Euro prize.
The winners, who have opted to stay anonymous, said in a statement: “We met up straight away and decided to carefully take our time and get legal and financial advice to be properly prepared for when our share of the €8 million hit our bank accounts. We’re glad that we took the time to claim the prize because we’ve had four weeks to carefully consider how the money will help us way into the future.
“We’re obviously not going to lose the run of ourselves but I know those within the group with mortgages and loans will be paying those off first while others are planning nice holidays and new cars. It’s all very exciting and new to us!”
‘We really didn’t believe it’
The winners bought their Quick Pick ticket from Dunnes Stores in Bishopstown, and found out the next day that they had pocketed the enormous jackpot. However, they admit that it did take a while for the realisation of how much they had won to sink in.
“On the Sunday morning after the draw we all got the same message to say we had won the Lotto,” said the winners. “The initial responses in the group were to ask, ‘oh yeah – how much’. We genuinely thought we had won a couple of euro each and instead, we had landed a jackpot worth over €8 million. We really didn’t believe any of it until we heard on the news that the winning ticket was sold in the locality, it was so just so surreal.”
The Irish Lotto jackpot has been won just once since 4th August, by a player who bought their ticket in Co Meath and snapped up €4.7 million last Wednesday. The top prize is now back up to €2.5 million ahead of the next draw, and you can take part online or by popping into any authorised retailer. Best of luck!
