Itchy Hand Brings Lotto Plus 2 Win
A Dublin man who won €250,000 in the Lotto Plus 2 draw on Wednesday 10th August put his good fortune down to having an itchy hand. On picking up his cheque at Irish National Lottery headquarters yesterday he recalled feeling the strange sensation, an old superstition said to signify the recipient is due to come into money, and deciding to buy a scratchcard. He reinvested the €8 winnings from that card in an Irish Lotto ticket and is now a quarter of a million Euro better off.
“I’m not a regular [Irish Lotto] player, but these past few weeks I’ve had a feeling that I can’t describe – like something good was coming my way,” he told lottery officials, “I woke up the other morning with an itch in my hand so I gave my son a couple of quid and told him to go buy me a scratch card.” The winner, who wished to remain anonymous, also admitted he didn’t initially realise his good fortune, despite having watched the draw on television. “It didn’t even register that I could be a winner. I left it to the next day to check my ticket and I couldn’t believe it when I saw I’d won,” he said.
The winner, his partner and three children were all in attendance to pick up the prize, won on a ticket bought at Frehill’s Spar in Crumlin in the capital. The delighted family said the win would make life easier for them in the future.
Wednesday 10th August’s draw saw two jackpot winners, each picking up the top prize of €250,000, although the second winner has yet to come forward. Their outstanding ticket was bought in Dunmore, Co Galway and you can see the full prize breakdown from the draw on the Results page.
