Lotto Winner From Co Cavan Hasn’t Told Family About €3 Million Jackpot
A winner of a €2.9 million Lotto jackpot has decided to stay anonymous - even keeping the win secret from his family. The identity of the mystery player, who won the prize in the Lotto draw on Wednesday 13th June, has so far only been disclosed to lottery officials.
“I Haven’t Told a Soul”
The winning Quick Pick ticket was bought at the Spa XL Service Station in Swanlinbar, Co Cavan, the day before the draw. The village has a population of just over 200 people, and shop owner Francis O’Reilly said: “The town is going absolutely bananas checking their tickets, but we don’t have any word on who the winner is.”
“We do get some passing trade coming through the town but the majority of our customers would be local so we’re hoping that one of them has won this truly life-changing prize,” he added. Incredibly, it is the second jackpot-winning ticket sold at the store, after one worth €2 million was bought there in 2013.
It is not just the residents of Swanlinbar who are still in the dark as to the identity of the lucky ticket holder. Speaking to lottery officials, the winner said: “I haven’t told a soul. Absolutely nobody knows, not even my family. I am going to get some good advice about what I am going to do with the money and as soon as all of this commotion has died down, I will be able to relax a little more.”
The winner claims to be a lifetime lottery player, so had a “good few” tickets in his wallet. “I was reading the Anglo Celt newspaper over the weekend and they listed the numbers so I took the tickets out to check them and that’s when it hit me.”
While those who live in Swanlinbar will continue to speculate about the identity of the ticket holder, they may never find out who it is, as jackpot winners have the option to remain anonymous.
