Player Scoops Irish Lotto Jackpot on Saturday 8th August 2015
One lucky Irish Lotto player landed the €2.5 million jackpot on Saturday 8th August and over 27,000 other participants picked up prizes on a great night for many fans of the game. The ticket holder who matched all six main numbers purchased their €4 Quick Pick entry on the day of the draw in Desmond Murphy's at the Rosslare Harbour PO in Co Wexford.
The winning numbers on Saturday were 9, 26, 33, 37, 40 and 44 with Bonus Ball 42. As well as the jackpot winner, there was one player who matched five main numbers plus the Bonus Ball to become €25,000 richer, and another 28 participants each snagged €2,089 after matching five main numbers. The remaining prizes ranged between €5 for matching three main numbers and €216 for matching four main numbers plus the Bonus Ball. To find a full prize breakdown, check out the Irish Lotto Results section, where you you can also see details of the Lotto Plus 1 and Lotto Plus 2 draws. There were thousands of prize winners in both supplementary games, including one player in the Match 5 + Bonus tier of Lotto Plus 1 who bagged €3,500.
The latest jackpot success comes one week after Gerry Murphy pocketed €6.3 million in the draw on Saturday 1st August. Murphy, who bought the winning ticket from his local store in Ballinrobe, Co Mayo, is on the lookout for a new transit van after his current vehicle broke down on Saturday and forced him to cancel a personal appearance on RTE radio. “Some cable went (in the van’s engine). I’m sorry about that,” he told presenter Marian Finucane by phone.
Saturday’s draw was also the first to take place since it was announced that changes to the Irish Lotto would be introduced from next month. Among a host of changes, a new prize tier for players who match two main numbers plus the Bonus means that the odds of winning a prize will improve, while jackpots are also set to rise. The cost of tickets will go up by €0.50 per line to a minimum spend of €4, and players will have to choose from 47 numbers rather than 45.
This new initiative, known as Bigger Better Lotto, will come into effect on 3rd September, so there is plenty of time to try and win big before the changes are made. There will be a jackpot of €2 million up for grabs in the next draw on Wednesday and you can buy tickets online now or by visiting any authorised retailer. Good luck!
