The Largest Irish Lottery Jackpot in Two Years Has Been Won
An Irish Lotto jackpot of more than €11.2 million - the largest the lottery has offered in more than two years - has been won by a single ticket. The winner has not yet come forward, but the winning ticket was revealed to have been sold at a retailer in Co Wicklow.
The winning numbers for the Wednesday 21st August Irish Lotto draw were 10, 13, 23, 24, 25 and 44, with a Bonus Ball of 12. As well as the single player who managed to match all six main numbers to win the jackpot, another player matched five main numbers and the Bonus to win €134,412 in the second prize tier.
The €11.2 million jackpot is the 15th largest to be won in Irish Lotto history, having rolled over 20 consecutive times since the last winner scooped more than €4 million on the 8th June. In that period, over €18.8 million was raised for good causes through the purchase of lottery tickets.
The ticket was revealed to have been purchased from a retailer in Co Wicklow, though no further details were given. A spokesperson for the National Lottery urged players to check their tickets in the meantime: “With a jackpot win of this amount, it is important that we take some time to inform the winning retailer and of course to give the winning ticket holder the time and space they need to let this truly life-changing win to sink in. If you are the lucky ticket holder, please be sure to sign the back of the ticket, keep it safe and contact the National Lottery prize claims team.”
The winner has 90 days to come forward with their winning ticket, before the jackpot is returned to the National Lottery for use promoting draws, and increasing funding for good causes across Ireland.
Largest Ever Irish Lotto Jackpot
The single largest Irish Lotto jackpot ever offered was €18.9 million, in June 2008. The jackpot broke another record, after it was won by a single ticket - becoming the largest Irish Lotto prize paid out to a single ticket. The ticket belonged to a syndicate of 16 co-workers at the Dan Morrissey quarry in Co Carlow, each of whom received over €1.1 million. Nearly two years later, in April 2010, a Co Waterford couple were the sole recipients of a €16.7 million jackpot.
