Waterford EuroMillions Winners ‘Couldn’t Sleep All Weekend’
A family from Waterford received a double surprise over the weekend when they discovered they were the big winners in Friday’s Ireland Only Raffle. At first they were delighted that they had picked up one of the €5,000 prizes, but then they learned that they had also won the additional €1 million.
The top prize in the latest special draw went to a ticket bought at the Aramack Shop in University Hospital Waterford, and the winners have quickly come forward to claim their prize. They explained that they had been visiting a friend at the hospital and initially had no idea how much they had won.
“We checked the results over the weekend and our Euromillions raffle number was listed as one of the €5,000 winners,” said a spokesperson for the family. “We were just absolutely thrilled with that and little did we know that there was an extra €1m on top of that again. When I mentioned to one of the kids that I had bought the ticket at the hospital in Waterford they said the winning one million Euro “Ireland Only Raffle” ticket was sold there.
“There was an unbelievable scramble to find out if we were the lucky winner of the extra €1m prize. We haven’t been able to sleep all weekend with the excitement.”
There are ten winning Ireland Only Raffle codes drawn alongside every EuroMillions game. Anyone who matches one of the codes lands a prize, and in standard draws all the winners are paid €5,000. However, special raffles take place from time to time and one of the winners is randomly selected to receive an extra €1 million.
Irish Lotto Joy
Nobody won the EuroMillions jackpot on Friday night, but one lucky player did land the top prize in Saturday’s Irish Lotto. They matched the numbers 3, 4, 5, 19, 26 and 43 to scoop €8.3 million, and the winning ticket was sold in the Dunnes Store in Bishopstown, Cork.
It was the second-largest Lotto jackpot to be given away this year, and officials are now waiting for the winner to come forward and collect their money. The deadline for all prizes to be claimed in Ireland is 90 days from the date of the draw, so the lucky player has until 2nd November to make contact.
More Big Draws This Week
The Irish Lotto jackpot has reset to €2 million for Wednesday’s next draw, but EuroMillions is up to a phenomenal €85 million following another rollover on Tuesday. The top prize has not been won since a ticket holder from Spain won €17 million on 13th July, and millions of players from across Europe will be eagerly looking forward to the next opportunity to become one of the year’s biggest winners.
