Who is Most Likely To Win Tonight’s €10 Million Irish Lotto Jackpot?
As Irish Lotto players look forward to trying to land tonight’s €10 million jackpot, statistics have been released to reveal the profile of the average winner in 2016. There were 103 players last year who won prizes of at least €100,000, with the biggest payout going to a player from Carlow who scooped €66.1 million on EuroMillions, and Irish National Lottery bosses have compiled the data to highlight who the luckiest people have been.
It has emerged that seven out of 10 big winners last year were men, while seven out of ten were also aged 45 or over. A quarter of the winners had jobs as drivers, Dublin was the luckiest location and one in five admitted to sleeping with their winning ticket under their pillow. The stats also showed the Caribbean was the most popular destination for players looking to splash their cash on a holiday.
“I have been very lucky to meet winners and present their cheques over a number of years and have always been struck by how grounded and down to earth Irish winners are as they process what are life transforming prize payouts,” said National Lottery chief executive Dermot Griffin.
It remains to be seen whether anyone will pocket tonight’s enormous jackpot, which is the largest prize to have been offered since €11.3 million was given away on Saturday 3rd December. The jackpot has not yet been won in 2017, but regardless of the stats it is worth remembering that every single line has an equal chance of winning and you do not have to be a middle-aged male taxi driver from Dublin to enter.
It is a huge a week for Irish lottery players, with one ticket holder also guaranteed to win €1 million in the Ireland Only Raffle on Friday night. The EuroMillions jackpot will stand at €17 million after last night’s top prize was shared by a player from Belgium and one from the UK. Tickets can be bought for Irish Lotto or EuroMillions now, either by playing online or visiting an authorised retailer.
