Family Syndicate Claim €30 Million EuroMillions Jackpot
A family from Co Clare have come forward to claim the €30 million EuroMillions jackpot they won in February. It is the biggest prize to have been paid out in Ireland for almost two years, and the winners are determined to use the money to look after loved ones.
It was revealed after the draw on Friday 11th February that a ticket sold at Larkin’s Gala in Killaloe was the only winner of the top prize. The shop borders the counties of Clare, Tipperary and Limerick, so there was initially an element of mystery about exactly where the winner came from.
It has now emerged that the lucky entry belonged to a family syndicate. They have now collected their eight-figure cheque from Irish Lottery headquarters and reflected on a momentous few weeks.
Speaking about how they found out about the win, the family said: “The draw was on the Friday night but we didn’t check our ticket straight away so we were totally oblivious to the big win at the start.
“It was probably about two days before we found out that we won the jackpot so you can imagine the range of emotions that we went through then. When we heard on the radio that the winning ticket was sold in a shop located on the border of Clare, Limerick and Tipperary, that kind of triggered something and we were quick to scan the ticket then.
“Initially, we got the message on the app to say that we had won big and to contact the National Lottery. It was only at that point that we realised just how much the ticket in front of you was actually worth.
“I’d say the person on the other end of the line could hear us all jumping up and down in the house on that call. To hear that you’ve won over €30 million just isn’t something that you ever expect!”
The winners decided to wait a few weeks to collect the money so they could get their heads around what had happened. They sought financial advice and are now looking forward to a bright future.
“The focus of the win is to look after family and that’s exactly what we’ve said since the start. The plan is to pay off mortgages and buy new homes,” said the winners, who have decided to stay anonymous.
“I think a few of us are eager to upgrade our cars too. After the last two years, we’re really looking forward to planning some extended holidays over the coming months.”
The last time that a larger EuroMillions prize was won in Ireland was in July 2020, when an online player from Leinster scooped €49 million.
Next EuroMillions Superdraw
EuroMillions draws take place every Tuesday and Friday evening, offering a jackpot of at least €17 million. Superdraws are also scheduled a few times a year to boost the top prize much higher without the need for rollovers, and the next one has now been announced.
The Megadraw will be held on Friday 29th April and there will be a jackpot of €130 million up for grabs. If nobody wins on the night, the jackpot could go on to reach as much as €230 million.
It will be the second Superdraw of the year, after one on 4th February when a player from the UK landed a jackpot of €130 million. Pick your numbers for the next draw now to give yourself a chance of winning.
